"Let's talk about portraits"
You have a photograph of a loved one and you would like an artist to use that photo and paint a portrait.
The portrait market today is very confusing, but I will try to simplify it for you.
If you search the web for an artist you can find some very good ones. They will paint a superb portrait
that I am sure you will love. The artist's fee will be high, but if you can afford it, the portrait will be worth it.
There are other portrait artists on the web that create fully computer generated art. They never touch a paintbrush.
They don't even own a tube of paint and they have no canvas. Since it is done on the computer the final picture
is PRINTED on the canvas. They sit at their computers and use expensive software to copy over your photos.
As a piece of art it is worth nothing.
There are agencies that hire artists from all over the world; particularly from poor countries so they don't have
to pay them very much. These portraits are cheap; just like the computer generated ones. The artist doesn't even
sign them. Both types of paintings are shipped to you rolled in a tube. This is the worst thing you can do to an
oil painting. When you receive it, you then have to find a specialist to strech it over wood strips. This process
can very easily crack the paint. By the time it takes for this to happen your guarantee will be over and you can't
return it. Your stuck with it, cracks and all.
You never even choose the artist. You will never talk with him or her. When your friends ask you the name of the
artist that painted your portrait, all you can say is, "I don't know." This is mass produced art and that's why it's so
cheap. The last two types of painting do have their place in the world, they are for people who could never afford
a good reputable artits, but there's hope for you if you want a quality portrait at a reasonable price. I am the artist
you are looking for.
My art is of the first type, but my prices are very affordable. Send me your photos and I will work very closely
